The city of Vejle was founded where Vejle River and Grejs River meet in Vejle Fjord. Vejle River Valley has been populated since the end of the last ice age. Vejle River made the creek valley a very attractive place. Some of the first inhabitants were stone age- hunters. 9000 years ago they were hunting and fishing in the fertile creek valley. Since then Vejle River and the surrounding area has attracted everybody from the bronze age-girl Egtvedpigen to the vikings, who build the 750 meter long Ravningebro over Vejle River. Today the creek valley boasts one of the largest concentrations of bronze age-tombs in Denmark.
